3:30- 4:00 Summary & Future Plans

The Internet has been a major form of map delivery since the introduction of Mosaic, the first multimedia browser, in 1993. This workshop examines developments in Application Programmer Interfaces (APIs) for mapping and MapServices in general, including Google Maps API and similar services. The specific purpose of the meeting is to propose chapters for a new book to be published in 2011 by the Maps and the Internet Commission along with the Working Group on Open Source Geospatial Technologies of the International Cartographic Association. 

The symposium is scheduled for November 19, at the conclusion of the AutoCarto 2010 meeting in Orlando, Florida.  AutoCarto 2010 will take place November 15-18, 2010. You may decide to submit a paper for that meeting as well as for the symposium.

Important Dates

The following is the schedule of the submissions for the symposium:

August 1, 2010:  Submission of 200-word abstract.

August 30, 2010: Notification of abstract acceptance.

October 15, 2010: Submission of final 5000 word paper.

November 19, 2010: Presentation of paper at symposium.

January 15, 2011: Final submission of chapter for book.

Program Committee

The Program Committee consists of members of the Maps and the Internet commission. The Committee will be responsible for review of the abstracts and final papers.

Accommodation

AutoCarto 2010 and the Online Maps with APIs and Mapservices symposium will take place at the DoubleTree Hotel at the entrance to Universal Orlando. The exact location is indicated on the map.
